chess genius lite looks very good on my android china touch pad.

here some benchmarks:

a little benchmark for the 7" APAD android 1.5 touchpad with 600 mhz rockchip CPU

set up a level where genius computes long enough, i choose 3' average thinking time.
force
1.a3 g6 2.a4 (because genius has all other moves in book!) and genius computes.

NPS after 1'8" output says 72.064 NPS
0.12 10 d5 d4 Bg7 Nc3 Nc6 e3 Nf6

after 2'49" new mainline with 71.310 NPS
0.14 10 Nc6 Nc3 d5 e3 Bg7 Bb5 Bf5 d4

so roughly ~72.-73.000 NPS

Image

on a Palm Tungsten T3 with 400 mhz genius is computing ~ 79.000 NPS
from the same position.

Just tested the same position after 1.a3 g6 2.a4 on my Windows mobile devices, Acer Neotouch 1 ghz gets 228666 n/s after 1:11 at D=11, Ipaq 212 enterprise 624mhz gets 119377 n/s after 2:16 and D=11.
One thing I notice with Chess Genius is that it does not speed up with the same factor as other engines when tested on the Ipaq Enterprise and Acer Neotoch. Some other engines have a 7-8 time speed up while Genius only gets about 2 times speed up.
I would be interested to know what n/s Genius gets on some fast Android devices with 1ghz and Android 2.2 OS.

I hope to release a version with basic UCI support soon. I setup this page with some background and instructions on how to install and import an UCI engine: http://www.aartbik.com/MISC/uchess.html

i was capable to install bikjump-UCI for android chess on a HTC HD2.
although this mobile is a windows phone, you can install android on it.

and ... install the chess UCI engine.

on THIS hardware bikjump is computing 120-160.000 NPS.

much more than on my china-pad touchscreen.

there is a new beta version of genius for android.

it runs on my HTC HD2 and makes arround 165-173.000 NPS on that hardware.
it can handle PGN files you put on your SD card.

you can browse through the database and load/save games in pgn.

Are there any other Android chess programs which permit database browsing? I just got a Galaxy S (love it), but haven't found anything like that so far.

Since you have the Galaxy S, have you updated to Froyo 2.2.It has just been officialy released by Samsung.I am interested in how much faster it runs Chess applications and if it is faster than the HTC Nexus or Desire.Could you post some positions with current Android 2.1 performance and then with the Android 2.2.
