World CPU chess champion
World CPU chess champion
Hello, I'm new to this forum, but after skimping through some of the topics,i am picking up the general picture that there's a new super engine in town by the name of Fire, now i don't use my collection of engines to the extent that you chaps do.i like playing through my engines with short and long time controls, enjoying many good battles engine vs engine, i have two dual core AMD 5600+ Athlons, so my engines aren't using quads, but non the less,my systems are still able to give ample needs to my collection, getting to the point,Last time i checked Rybka was still world CPU chess champion, and for the record Rybka 3 and 4 dominate my leagues,Am i led to believe this new engine fire is a match for rybka 3 and 4,Ive noticed rybka 4s end game isn't as strong as 3s,but non the less rybkas rule in my camp, feedback appreciated.post quote WCCC RESULTS 2007 Rybka.2008 Rybka,2009 Rybka.
Re: World CPU chess champion
I highly recommend you check out Houdini, which is similar to Fire but different and stronger.
It's currently just ahead of Rybka 4 on the rating list.

I would agree, Houdini is the strongest program bar none. I have played 100's of games at fast and slow time controls. Houdini is the strongest all around chess program I have tested. Much better at almost any endgame then Rybka 3 or 4.

Hi Mark, is that with TB's on?Mark Young wrote:I would agree, Houdini is the strongest program bar none. I have played 100's of games at fast and slow time controls. Houdini is the strongest all around chess program I have tested. Much better at almost any endgame then Rybka 3 or 4.
On a side note, I have been testing Deep Shredder 12 vs. Deep Rybka 4 on two separate computers, Quad cores and 80% of the games are draws and the balance Rybka wins. I would say based on this at the WCCC, that Shredder will not be the winner, unless they have a very well prepared opening book!
Cordially,
Sean

I will wait to test T52. Ivanhoe is a strong program at bullet time controls, but when I start testing at longer time controls. Rybka 4 and Houdini over take it by by a huge margin. I will wait for other to test T52, since playing long time control games take time and new versions are coming much to fast. I want a program to be great at long and short time controls, I have not found this with the Ivanhoe's yet.
Re: World CPU chess champion
I have been to busy testing Houdini. Testing Houdini vs.T52 now at 5/3 TC. So far its 15-13 T52. This will change i think innotyetagm wrote:IvanHoe T52 just came out.Peter C wrote:I highly recommend you check out Houdini, which is similar to Fire but different and stronger.

Fire 1.1 is the "super engine" in computer-chess-town!!!Drog1966 wrote:Hello, I'm new to this forum, but after skimping through some of the topics,i am picking up the general picture that there's a new super engine in town by the name of Fire, now i don't use my collection of engines to the extent that you chaps do.i like playing through my engines with short and long time controls, enjoying many good battles engine vs engine, i have two dual core AMD 5600+ Athlons, so my engines aren't using quads, but non the less,my systems are still able to give ample needs to my collection, getting to the point,Last time i checked Rybka was still world CPU chess champion, and for the record Rybka 3 and 4 dominate my leagues,Am i led to believe this new engine fire is a match for rybka 3 and 4,Ive noticed rybka 4s end game isn't as strong as 3s,but non the less rybkas rule in my camp, feedback appreciated.post quote WCCC RESULTS 2007 Rybka.2008 Rybka,2009 Rybka.
With these settings FireBird 1.1 w32 ( the strongest Fire engine) is in good condition.
In my personal tests FireBird is approximately 20 elo stronger than Deep Rybka 4 32bit !
The Dr. Wael Deeb settings for Fire 1.1 32 bit:
Pawn Hash: 64
Pawn Value: 120
Knight Value: 325
Bishop Value: 325
Rook Value: 600
Queen Value: 1170
Bishop Pair Value: 65
Verification Reduction: 8
I feel a lot of elo is saved for the rental version of Rybka, so Vasik Rajlich did not care much
about this Rybka 4, what a shame.

I have 2 FireBird 1.1 personalities that are stronger than Deep Rybka 4 and that at long time controls....I don't play bullet or blitz time controls....There is something special in the FireBird 1.1,something original and if you find the right tweak, you we'll be surprised by the result....
Dr.D
The right tweak:
Pawn Hash: 64
Pawn Value: 120
Knight Value: 325
Bishop Value: 325
Rook Value: 600
Queen Value: 1170
Bishop Pair Value: 65
Verification Reduction: 8

Thanks for bringing this up
These parameters are extremely strong, indeed this personality is stronger than Deep Rybka 4 at long time controls....I have another one which is as strong if not even stronger, but need more time for testing....
