ChessGUI development suspended.

Post by Matthias Gemuh » Wed Jul 28, 2010 10:42 am

ChessGUI development suspended.

I have just uploaded ChessGUI 0.192 !

I will now suspend the development of ChessGUI for quite some time.
I hope anyone who dares to use it, will not encounter any problems.
My tests found ChessGUI 0.192 to be optimized and bug-free.

I may now return to chess engine programming.

However, from time to time I will highlight some weird feature of ChessGUI.

Cheers,
Matthias.

I have just re-uploaded the ChessGUI package with the following book-related
changes:

- ChsGUI_Book.cgb, ChessGUI_Opening_Suite.pgn and HarrySchnapp.cgb have each
been subjected to the following constraints:
1) book is exactly 12 moves deep
2) no duplicates
3) no transformations
4) material at least 1Queen+1Rook+2Bishops+1Knight+5Pawns per side.
These constraints shrink HarrySchnapp.cgb from 58000 to 24000 positions.
ChsGUI_Book.cgb and ChessGUI_Opening_Suite.pgn each have 46000 positions.

- ChessGUI.exe has been updated to apply identical constraints on
ChessGUI_Opening_Suite.pgn and remis books (*.cgb) during book creation.

I don't think you will suspend development. Of course, not that am daring you. You are addicted just like the rest of us to computer chess. Anyways, your work and effort is much appreciated. Still hoping you will consider Linux as there is no serious GUI for the OS and you can take the lead...thanks!

I will shift my addiction from ChessGUI to BigLion ;) .

I am not familiar with Linux  .

You can't go wrong with Linux. My recommendations -- openSUSE, Fedora, or Ubuntu to get you going. By the way, is ChessGUI written in Borland Delphi?

I see -- took a little peek and wasn't sure. Well, much success to BigLion's development...

The initialization of a RoundRobin or Gauntlet tournament with thousands of cycles was pathetically slow.
ChessGUI 0.193 dramatically speeds that up.

ChessGUI 0.192 was already bug-free, so ChessGUI 0.193 is just an optimization ;) .

I may yet try to optically scale ChessGUI differently before pausing the ChessGUI project.

Matthias.
Wanna be able to initialize Swiss tournaments again as in ChessGUI 0.192 ? then you need ChessGUI 0.193a ;) .

ChessGUI 0.194 is out.

Post by Matthias Gemuh » Sun Aug 01, 2010 12:32 pm

ChessGUI 0.194 is out.

- Feature request "Small Grid Font Size" fulfilled under "GUI Preferences".

- Some options in "GUI Preferences" were not being saved. Fixed.

- Book creation has been enhanced.

Now switching to engine programming, I hope  .
