Thorsten,

there is a chess program named BikJump for the Android OS. It's Java based and probably much slower than on Mac OS X (I've tested it there, it's pretty strong, may be around 2450). Check out this link: http://www.aartbik.com/MISC/android.html.
If you plan on getting an Android run cell phone, you might download this program, would be nice to hear your impressions.

Another thing, in case you are into ebook readers (as I am :)) --- Barnes and Noble ebook reader, called the Nook just had an OS update in which they included a chess program and a sudoku game. I mention this because the Nook runs on Android.

Some one has made a port of StockFish 1.8 and has it running on a HTC Desire Cellphone.

yes. and his 1.02 version now also runs on OLDER android versions such as android
1.5. this means.... it runs on my china touch pad.
