Amateurs use reflector telescopes for ages but for this big you have to be a very serious amateur.

I agree. I ground a reflector mirror in a kit from Edmund Scientific Company 45+ years ago. I think it was 8" but am no longer sure. Thing worked perfectly although it did take some time walking around and around the mirror during the hand-grinding process.
