ACG2015 et al.

Post by BB+ » Tue Feb 10, 2015 8:51 pm

The ICGA is delighted to announce that the 2015 ICGA events will be organized in Leiden, the Netherlands, at the Department of Computer Science LIACS, Leiden University.

The events will start at Monday 29 June 2015 and end at 5 July 2015 (with a possible extension of a day, if there are many contestants).
The Events will consist of
[*] The ACG2015 Advances in Computer Games Conference (1-3 July) https://acg2015.wordpress.com/
[*] The World Computer Chess Championship
[*] The World Computer Software Championship
[*] The Speed Computer Chess Championship
[*] The Computer Olympiad
I personally happen to be in Germany the week of July 6-10 for a math conference, and thus will likely attend the latter days.

I am glad that they are finally true to their word about alternating between North America and the European continent.
Oh, wait...

Oh, wait...
Actually, when the ICCA changed to ICGA, the charter was changed. That NA/E alternation was removed.

That's fine.
But let's call it what it is...
The European Championship.

My feelings on THAT issue are already quite well known. :)

I don't remember Japan or China joining the European Union!?

It would be great to have the tournament in America. If a sponsor could be found there I am sure it will happen.

Which relevant engines from Japan and China have joined the fray?
The contest is no longer relevant. If several engines from the top 8 are missing, then the contest is not what it purports to be.
It's great for the commercial engines, because they can show up, beat some weak engines, and put a stamp that says, "Official World Champion" on the box.
It will fool the ignorant consumers, but it's a greasy lie.

TCEC says:

Code: Select all

Ratings after Season 7 - Superfinal (2014.12.28) # PLAYER : RATING POINTS PLAYED (%)
 1 Stockfish : 3216 319.5 538 59.4%
2 Komodo : 3213 291.5 491 59.4%
3 Houdini : 3190 215.0 364 59.1%
4 Vitruvius : 3159 21.5 34 63.2%
5 Bouquet : 3135 39.5 72 54.9%
6 Rybka : 3129 83.5 149 56.0%
7 Fire : 3122 31.5 54 58.3%
8 Gull : 3118 127.0 236 53.8%

CCRL 40/40 says:

CEGT 40/20 (after removal of duplicates) says:

Code: Select all

no	Program	Elo	+	-	Games	Score	Av.Op.	Draws
1 Stockfish 6.0 x64 4CPU 3282 20 20 852 71.9% 3101 46.9%

61 Chiron 2.0 x64 4CPU 3017 23 23 618 50.1% 3017 53.6%
How many of those engines will be represented?
If most top contenders are missing, how shall we call it a world championship?

I should mention that Hiarcs, ranked 9th on TCEC, is a realistic contender given a few improvements.

I misunderstood I thought you were talking about the location of the event. I think there is a chance we will see komodo at the next WC. Maybe even a version of Stockfish?!
