E97: King's Indian: Classical Main Line (6...e5 7 0-0 Nc6)

Post by Nex » Thu Dec 27, 2012 2:11 pm

Hello,

I wanted to share with you a King's Indian Game with a nice attack Queen's side without Queen ;)

So the game followed a main line to reach the position bellow after 1. Nf3 Nf6 2. c4 g6 3. d4 Bg7 4. Nc3 O-O 5. e4 d6 6. Be2 e5 7.
O-O Nc6 8. d5 Ne7 :

r1bq1rk1/ppp1npbp/3p1np1/3Pp3/2P1P3/2N2N2/PP2BPPP/R1BQ1RK1 w - - 0 9

In this position the 3 main options are 9.b4, 9.Ne1 or 9.Nd2.

I chose 9.b4 to gain space on queen side. After 9...a5 I chose 10.bxa5 instead of 10.Ba3.

r1bq1rk1/1pp1npbp/3p1np1/P2Pp3/2P1P3/2N2N2/P3BPPP/R1BQ1RK1 b - - 0 10

After 10...c5 11.Ne1!? Rxa5 12.Bd2 Black has a cramped position.

2bq1rk1/1p2npbp/3p1np1/r1pPp3/2P1P3/2N5/P2BBPPP/R2QNRK1 b - - 0 12

(12. a4 Nd7 13. g4 f5 14. f3 Nf6 15. Ng2 Bd7 16. Bd2 Qc8 17.
h3 Ra6 18. Qc2 Ne8 19. a5 fxe4 20. Nxe4 Nf6 21. Bd3 Nxe4 22. Bxe4 b6 23. axb6
Rxb6 24. Ra7 Ra6 25. Ra1 Rxa1+ 26. Rxa1 Nf5 {Gofshtein,L (2519)-Sutovsky,E
(2657) Tel Aviv 2002 1-0 (52)})

12...Ra3!? seems a novelty and may be considered.

2bq1rk1/1p2npbp/3p1np1/2pPp3/2P1P3/r1N5/P2BBPPP/R2QNRK1 w - - 0 13

(12... Nd7 13. f3 f5 14. g4 Kh8
15. Ng2 Ng8 16. h4 Ndf6 17. exf5 gxf5 18. g5 Nh5 19. f4 Ng3 20. Rf3 Nxe2+ 21.
Nxe2 Ra6 22. Ng3 Qe8 23. Re3 Qa4 24. Nh5 Qxd1+ 25. Rxd1 e4 26. Nxg7 Kxg7 27. h5
{Gajewski,G (2581)-Grigorian,A (2506) Moscow 2009 1-0 (71)})

The point of the spear after 11.Ne1 13.f3 and the 14.Nd3 :

2bqnrk1/1p2npbp/3p2p1/2pPp3/2P1P3/r1NN1P2/P2BB1PP/R2Q1RK1 b - - 0 14

After 20...Nf6 :

3q1rk1/1p1bn1bp/3p1np1/2pPp3/2P1Pp2/1PNN1P2/3BB1PP/Q4RK1 w - - 0 21

It's time for white to launch the deadly Queen side attack.

After 24.Nxb4 remember that knight that went from f3 to e1 then d3.

5rk1/1p1bn1bp/3p1np1/3Pp3/1NP1Pp2/2N2P2/3BB1PP/R5K1 b - - 0 24

After 28.cxb5*

R7/1pr1nkbp/3p1np1/1P1Pp3/1N2Pp2/5P2/3BBKPP/8 b - - 0 28

In this position black played 28...Nd7 surely with the idea of Nc5 afterwards.

R7/1prnnkbp/3p2p1/1P1Pp3/1N2Pp2/5P2/3BBKPP/8 w - - 0 29

Now do you find the killer move ?

29.Nc6! the punch !
R7/1prnnkbp/2Np2p1/1P1Pp3/4Pp2/5P2/3BBKPP/8 b - - 0 29

After34.Ba5 white still has to eliminate the b7 pawn.

R1n5/1p1nk2p/3pNb2/BP1Pp1p1/4Pp2/5PP1/2r1B2P/4K3 b - - 0 34

Black resigned after 34.Bd1

8/1R1nk2p/3pNb2/1P1Pp1p1/4Pp2/5PP1/2r4P/3BK3 b - - 0 39

Of course I played this game with heavy computer assistance, this does not reflect my playing skills.

Stockfish (several different versions) seems to have a problem with this position under Arena:
2b2bq1rk1/1p2npbp/3p1np1/2pPp3/2P1P3/r1N5/P2BBPPP/R2QNRK1 w - -
