Transposition to BDG from Caro Kann line...need analysis.
Transposition to BDG from Caro Kann line...need analysis.
I ran into this trap from a friend of mine who deliberately tried to set me up to fall for the BDG...which I emphatically don't like playing especially forced to using either color. I was Black and went for the Caro Kann but he still found a way to try and trick me into the BDG. The line went 1. e4 c6 2. d4 d5. So far so good but here's the annoying thing. White has at her/his disposal 3. Nc3 egging on for the BDG. That's what I faced on the third move...but I found what might probably be called a dubious novelty...but I was inspired by a line given in Tal's book and so I chose 3...b5?! immediately throwing a spanner into the works to throw him off. I would like it if someone could run a analysis of that move to see what the resulting lines look like and see what either Critter/Komodo/Stockfish/Rybka/Shredder etc think about it. Thanks. I lost the game but surprisingly my friend ran into a lot of problems when faced with that move. So just wondering what the analysis will show.
Re: Transposition to BDG from Caro Kann line...need analysis
I was surprised to learn by looking through my database there are about 100 games with the 3..b5 line. And apparently it has a variation named after it - the ECO lists it as B15b - Caron Kann:the Gurgenidze Counterattack. What really blew me away was seeing the percentages - according to my database (which is small because I filtered out the drawn games) White scores a surprisingly low 52%.

These are the lines given from my Hiarcs13Pro opening book. I like off beat openings and this line is new to me. I think I will try it out after a little more study and some computer test games. Some positions I will look at with IDeA. Thanks for sharing this.
