Armageddon 1.0

Post by armageddon » Wed Mar 09, 2011 4:39 pm

After short time of testing I'm decided to release my first chess engine Armageddon 1.0! Armageddon 1.0 is is free for non-commercial use based on Fire 1.31, and it can be downloaded, installed and freely used for playing chess and analysing chess games.
I changed several things in this version in comparison with Fire 1.31,but the most important are some changes in Evaluation of Pieces and Material Balance and some other smaller changes!!!
Please test it and if you have any comments and suggestions write here or my official web site http://armageddonchess.webs.com!
U can download Armageddon 1.0 here http://webzoom.freewebs.com/armageddonc ... %201.0.rar

It still doesn't make sense to mess up rating lists and pgn databases with 2 different programs of same name.

Matthias.
Aided by engines, GMs can be very strong.

From this point of view, I have to agree with Matthias that it would be best to rename the program.

I will probably do that in next version of my program for now it's Armageddon  , and I still believe that old Armageddon was inactive for a long period of time so I can use that name.
I will also try to contact author of old Armageddon and hear his opinion about this subject! :ugeek:

Second its based on Fire because I love that engine and I think there is a potential that can be used to create interesting and strong engine!

First I must tell u that Fire isn't weak, ok it's true there is some engines who are stronger, but we cant say that Fire is weak and dismiss it ;)

Kranium is the Belgian programmer Norman Schmidt. Why not give the engine a name which alludes more directly to its lineage? (Firebird and Firefly are of course bad choices. :D)
