Firebird 1.1 Please? Tactico (houdini clone)?

Post by randynq » Wed Sep 22, 2010 8:02 am

would someone be so nice and send me a copy of firebird 1.1 (64 bit windows preferably)? i can't find any links anywhere on the web that are WORKING and i would really like to try dr. deeb's settings for myself. i found 1.0, 1.2, and 1.3 but i can't get 1.1!

THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
my email address is randall424@yahoo.com

also has anyone tried the TACTICO engine? it seems very much like houdini in many respects, but it's in spanish so i can't read anything about it.

The Dr. Wael Deeb settings.

Pawn Hash: 64
Pawn Value: 120
Knight Value: 325
Bishop Value: 325
Rook Value: 600
Queen Value: 1170
Bishop Pair Value: 65
Verification Reduction: 8

With these settings FireBird 1.1 w32 ( the strongest Fire engine) is in good condition.
In my personal tests FireBird is approximately 20 elo stronger than Deep Rybka 4 32bit !

I feel a lot of elo is saved for the rental version of Rybka, so Vasik Rajlich did not care much
about this Rybka 4, what a shame.

Tactico (houdini clone)?

Post by Ng8f6 » Wed Sep 29, 2010 12:50 pm

I think Tactico is a Houdini clone!
I tested 7 engines (Critter 0.8, Gull 1.0, Houdini 1.03a, Komodo 1.2, Rybka 4, Stockfish 1.8, Tactico) with the 1200 STS positions. Three seconds per position on my slow  PC. Here is the result:

Houdini 1.03a .. 901 solved out of 1200
Tactico .......... 897
Rybka 4 ......... 834
Critter 0.8 ...... 807
Stockfish 1.8 ... 805
Gull 1.0 ......... 759
Komodo 1.2 .... 753

Then I compared each pair of engines - do they calculate very often the same move in the same position? The result is very clear. Each engine/engine-pair has between 286 and 365 different moves with one exception: Houdini and Tactico calculated in 1176 out of 1200 positions the same move, there are just 24 different moves! So Tactico is clearly a clone of Houdini!

By the way, the most differences (365) are between Rybka and Stockfish.

Correct, it appears that Tactico is identical to Houdini 1.03a, the Houdini executable has simply been edited to show a different program ID.

thanks Ng8f6. yeah they seem to play the same and draw every game against each other.

amazing engine mr houdart! but if you ever make another version, it would be great if you could let us adjust the settings to play around with them. that's the most fun, at least for me hehe. thank you.
