Houdini 1.03a bug-fix is available

Post by Robert Houdart » Sat Jul 17, 2010 1:58 pm

Houdini 1.03a is now available from http://www.cruxis.com/chess/houdini.htm .

This version contains a bug-fix for the multi-PV analysis hanging in some positions with Houdini 1.03. Even if you don't use multi-PV analysis it is recommended that you replace your existing 1.03 installations with the new build.

I apologize for the inconvenience.

Robert

Thank You Robert!

Yes, today night I have tested with Houdini 1.03, and I found really, the MV-Modus hase an BUG.
Now, the new version 1.03a works very fine with the MV-Modus, tested under Fritz 10 GUI and Shredder Classic, 1_CPU and 2_CPU versions w32. 8-)

ED.
Peace be with you!

Thank you very much for your wonderful engine Mr. Houdart!

I've been a user since your very first release. May I ask if there's a way to prevent or suppress the text like the following;

"Houdini_1.03-w32(1CPU): 128 MB Hash allocated"
"Houdini_1.03-w32(1CPU): 128 MB Hash allocated"

from popping up in a Technical messages window under the Fritz GUI? Yes, the lines appears twice upon loading, and it does not occur in your earlier versions.

Hello there Robert.

I never had the honor to personally thank the author of this fantastic engine. but at last i saw you here. thank you so much for this. I watched and downloaded every single release of your program since it became available. I also made private tournaments on my pc. Boy these are very strong ones, challenging even the best commercial ones out there. Using it, i managed to defeat my chessmaster program for fun. hehehehhehhehe. i also made tournaments in the evening before i go to bed and eager to wake up in the morning to check results. :D

I would like to share also my latest results:

50 out of 50 games played
Level: 5 Minutes/Game
Round robin
Ponder On
Hash: 1024mb per engine
Common book: shredder Classic
4 threads per engine
GUI: Deep Shredder 11
Houdini Analysis Contempt Off

System: i7 930 @ 3.6ghz, 6gbram
OS: windows 7 Ultimate X64

Results:
1 Houdini 1.03a x64 POPCNT 4_CPU X 28.0 28.0 / 50 616.00 56.00%
2 Deep Rybka 4 SSE42 x64 22.0 X 22.0 / 50 616.00 44.00%

Thank you all for your kind words.

WaKiaSu, I've added this message in Houdini 1.03a (it's in fact more useful when you're using Large Pages, as it shows whether the Large Page allocation has been successful or not), I hope there is a way in Fritz to turn off the "Technical messages" window.

Cheers,
Robert

Not that I know...

I hope this window won't pop up when the SF-Houdini match starts Thursday. ;)

Robert
Houdini currently doesn't support «Deep Position Analysis» mode in the Fritz GUI. We need smth. like «Always Analyse» feature in the IvanHoes to be implemented in Houdini.
Thanks in advance.

It's a standard "info string" UCI output, not sure why Fritz would handle this in a special way.
If really this gives a problem with the match, I could send you a Houdini 1.03a version without this message. But I'd rather that you use the officially released version, if possible.

I remember the older Fritz GUI did handle it in a special way.

Let me check it before I start the match. I'll get back to you.

Thanks! :D
