I smell blood in the water here. I just did a quick game with Stockfish 1.8 in blitz and I was totally crushed. These guys are aiming straight for Rybka 4's throat. This puts the Crab beta nightmare to sleep.

Great! Thanks to all the Stockfish team.

Stockfish is a piranha, can 1.8 finish off the little fish?

based on a very scientifically reliable 2CPU hyperbullet ponder off match (literally dozens of games played so far) :? s, this appears to be a legit improvement, it's been hovering around +~40 elo head to head against 1.7.1 (default settings). i have about a 7% confidence level in that number but i'm curious to see how it will compare to actual testing. on the off chance that it actually is +40 elo, it will be tantalizingly close to rybka 4 based on CCRL numbers. and a pretty astounding jump given the short time between releases. i was and am in reality expecting something more like +20 elo over 1.7, which is in itself a nice feat.

for an engine of its strength shouldnt the scores be much higher?? perhaps SF really is just one very mean, very bad brute after all.

yes, 20 or even 15 ELO gain is much more in line with reality ;-)

...forget hyperbullet.

So based on this release...can we say that Rybka 4's days of dominance will be short lived? Is there a good chance Stockfish will topple it later this year?
