Nimzo 3d Chess GUI

Post by Roy32 » Mon Jun 03, 2024 2:12 pm

Previously, I have posted links for my Nimzo_2023 Chess GUI program
which is an enhanced version of the Tarrasch chess GUI.

I have now added 3d graphics powered by DirectX
and game sound effects to the program.

The program can be downloaded from the following links :-

Nimzo_3d version 3.3 full installation package
https://www.mediafire.com/file/keju8i1j ... ss.7z/file

Nimzo_3d version 3.3 update from Nimzo_2023
https://www.mediafire.com/file/cug32gyf ... ss.7z/file

For Nimzo users who are not able to get the new version to run
there is an updated version 3.2 for Nimzo_2023
which has the game sound effects and some minor bug fixes.

The downloads are also available from the following website -

!!! BUG ALERT !!! for Nimzo 3d

If you have downloaded version 3.3 of Nimzo 3d
before 18.00 GMT on the 5th of June 2024 then
the version you have has a bug in it that causes engine
tournaments to crash.

I was alerted to this bug by a Nimzo user
and have now corrected it.

If you download the program again from one of the same links as before,
although the zip file has the same name, when you unzip the file
there will be an installer or update program for version 3.4
which will install the corrected program.

My apologies to all Nimzo users for any inconvenience.

Dear Nimzo users,

I think that there was a problem with the previous installation program.

I have just purchased a new (refurbished) computer and when I installed
the Nimzo_3d program on it, the following support files were copied to
the wrong directory.

book.pgn - opening book file
Balsa_v500.pgn - opening books for engine testing
Balsa_v110221.pgn
Auerswald_puzzles.pgn - PGN puzzle file
db_small.pgn - small chess database PGN file
great-players-demo.tdb - Tarrasch format database file
Comments - directory with comment files
for automatic analysis

They were placed in
C:\Users\John\My Documents\Tarrasch
(John was the user name for my old computer)
rather than
C:\Users\<YOUR USER NAME>\My Documents\Tarrasch
which is where the Nimzo_3d.exe file expects to find them.

This is all further complicated by the fact that the directory
<My Documents> which is displayed in Windows Explorer seems to be
an alias for the actual directory on disk, which is named <Documents>
You can check this from the command prompt.

You could copy the files across manually to the correct directory,
but given that in response to user feedback I have made a new version
which fixes a bug with the fixed time allowance setting in the
Clocks dialog box and added a feature to adjust the 3d board dimensions
separately, you may find it simpler to download the new version
which has a corrected installer, from the same links as before.

Full installation package
https://www.mediafire.com/file/keju8i1j ... ss.7z/file

Update package
https://www.mediafire.com/file/cug32gyf ... ss.7z/file

Although the links and zip file download names are the same,
a new installer setup_Nimzo_3d_chess_v3_41 is contained within.

The lastest full installation or update packages should place the support files
in the correct directory but only the full package has the dbase files.

Once again, my apologies to Nimzo users for this mistake.

Yours sincerely, Roy Sawyer
