Looking for broad gambit games (pgn)

Post by royb » Fri Jun 11, 2010 5:13 pm

I use Linux and SCID and polyglot books. I'm looking for a good selection of games that feature gambits exclusively so that I can use the PGN from those games to build a polyglot opening book that will play only gambits.

Anyone know of a good collection of such games?

Thanks,

Roy

Would it be practical to take you main SCID database and filter games based on known gambit openings?

That was my thought as well but I discovered that I do not know nearly as many gambit openings are there actually are, and it would be somewhat tedious to select a set of games for each opening (one by one as I stepped down the list of gambits). I was hoping that someone had already compiled a decent set of gambits in a pgn file. Apparently that is not the case -- or at least not for anyone that has read my posting!

A good starting point for gambits is this list on wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_chess_gambits

Chessbase recently posted a link to http://studimonetari.org/edg/ which is a list of 700 gambits.
