Houdini

Would like to begin working with Houdini on a Quad Core computer. Have no experience with the 3000+ rated free online programs and want to know of essential differences between Houdini and open source programs like Stockfish and Firebird. Is there anything I should know about differences in unzipping, GUI linking, or fundamental operating?

For your purpose there is no difference.
