I was searching through the CCC archives from the late 90's and stumbled upon this position posted by Alexandre Come (who gained a repution then for posting brilliant positions). Will today's computers find a winning plan for white, unaided by humans ? I believe Paulo Soares found a winning plan back then. The game was Gusev-Averbakh (don't have the pgn though). And I believe there game had flawed moves. Note, there was some analysis then that black could draw.

This is pretty famous. I don't know what the current verdict is.

The same position was discussed on talkchess a few years ago now, after Qxe5 followed by Rf1 the concensus was that white wins.If I remember rightly the queenside pawn majority was the decisive factor. It's one of those difficult to explain why in simple terms, much like the famous Bishop sac on h2 that Bobby played against Spassky, was it still a draw or was it lost?
I will be amazed if any engine will find 1.Qxe5 even today on fast hardware.

A cool game.
I've run Houdini 1.5 on the position after the game continuation 24.Qxe5 fxe5. At search depth 18 the evaluation is still below -5, but then 25.Rf1 starts climbing, and from search depth 26 on it's evaluated a draw.

In the game Black did probably go wrong at move 29, he should have played 29...cxb3 instead of 29...a5.
After 29...a5 Houdini sees a White win, after 29...cxb3 it's a draw.
