What happened to the development of Arena chess GUI for Linux? It was talked about a while back, and does anyone have any information if we can still look forward to it?

I run Arena in Wine with no problems whatsoever.

It runs fine under Wine as well here, however, you do get a bit significant hit in speed -- though, some might not find that to be an issue.

I'm not sure what version of Linux you run or how your system may be configured, but I see no measurable difference in speed between engines run with Wine and those that are natively compiled for Linux. If you are seeing a speed hit, I suspect something is not quite right with your wine setup.

Check out benchmark from a little over a year ago: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1806 What do yours look like? My system is quite up-to-date.

The only hit I have ever seen is in a graphics-intensive application, or one that uses a ton of windows calls to do things, since this has to be mapped from windows calls to linux/xfree86. compute-bound tasks should show no slow-down at all, at least I am not seeing any.

Wine still has an occasional issue, but speed isn't the problem.
