I'm curious about this because I haven't updated my Chessbase 9 product and since I've heard about the so called "improvements" in the Chessbase brand...I'm interested in learning just what it is that this expensive product has over the freeware SCID chess database and what it does that SCID can't.

I've never really gotten SCID to work for me. In my limited experience, it's quite buggy. It has some bugs in engine output display, at the very least, but there are interface annoyances, too. My biggest (and most superficial) issue with it is that it's ugly, has 5 billion windows that you have to dock and tab through, and it doesn't inspire me to do anything. And its database is incompatible with everything else. I'm sure it's got a lot of things going for it beyond the price, but I prefer CB for actually getting work done.

So, that doesn't really answer your question. I don't know if CB11 really provides much new over CB9. I bought CB10 (my first CB database product) after CB11 was announced, so I got the update for free.

New ribbon interface is really quick and easy. It shortens the learning curve for newcomers. I think it even makes things quicker for those who are familiar with chessbase. Major annoyance with scid is there ridiculous own format which noboddy else uses.
