is Critter a clone of Rybka?

I've just read this message from Peter Skinner: http://talkchess.com/forum/viewtopic.ph ... 88&t=37948

So you have Houdini, Critter, Ivanhoe, and Rybka all in the same group? Why not just match Rybka against itself or Fruit for that matter?

That's a complete waste of time...

Peter

Does this means that also Critter is a clone of Rybka (or IvanHoe, Robbolito) ?
Has anyone studied it?
This is the first time I hear such a claim about Critter.

I don't know if it is a clone of Rybka. The top 20 on all rating list seem to be clones of the Ivanhoe,Robbolito families.

It is not. The thread was deleted or moved to the mod forum (CCC). I thought it shouldn't have been removed for the sake of record keeping.

Why should "adults" need babysitting?!

Some people just don't understand how Critter has improved greatly in such a short period of time, but truth is, it has been under development for while -- besides, I haven't seen anything that raises a flag. Stockfish has improved a great deal in the last couple years as well -- the source is public, so an accusation against it is hard to make. The current versions of Critter being closed-source makes it easier target for these kinds of baseless accusations.

http://sourceforge.net/projects/critterchess/

The first golden age of computer chess was the release of Fruit, and now a second age has come.

P.S. Perhaps someone should ask Peter S. for clarification...

The sourceforge site hasn't been updated since Critter 0.42, October 2009. I don't believe that there's any reason whatsoever to think that Critter is a clone of IPPOLIT, but I think that the fact that IPPOLIT was publicized around that time, and the fact that the source has been closed since then, fuels this sort of conspiracy talk. Unfortunately, there is a love of the Computer Chess Conspiracy among the CTF fraction of the CCC. What are you going to do except laugh?

You should really take your head out of your ass before speaking. I had already corrected myself in regards to Critter; being that I lopped it in with the rest of the derivatives by accident.

I have never spoken to Rolf outside the CCC, and the amount of time I have spent talking to Graham and Harvey in the last 6 months would easily be under 60 minutes total. So I don't see how I am "troll clone" of either 3 men you mentioned.

You also fail to see that I called Rybka a clone of Fruit 5 yrs ago, just as I have been critical of the Ippolit derivatives since they came on the scene. If anything, I have been the one constant. As for the Chessbase engine rooms, I don't play there, so I really could give a rats ass what they do on their server.

Why are you using CTF language here ?

Since when is the term "take your head out of your ass" deemed as CTF language?

So I can assume anyone who uses that term previously or in the future is/has been a member of the CTF?
