exp file question

I read a post where someone turned off the opening books for an engine with a learning file. I tried this with Incognito and it seems ( this is only observation, I have no data) the engine plays openings very much like it would if the books were activated. Which leads me to wonder if this needs testing, or ,more likely, if those tests are already done?
