The end of ChessWar
Dear friends,
This is to confirm the rumours that ChessWar is going to an end.
Of course, I am annoyed by all the clone/derivative stories, but the main reason is I now want to spend my time with other things.
I am still interested in amateur chess engines, and I really liked the social event of broadcasting games. So possibly there will be a new edition of OpenWar at the end of the year. We'll see.
Of course I'll keep the Winboard Forum alive.
Olivier

Thank you for all your work. Everyone once-in-a-while, it is OK to unplug. Hope to see the tournaments back in the future.

It is no longer difficult to do a ChessWar type tourney with the new computer chess software. You just click the programs you want in the tourney and then let the computer(s) play the games. At the end just post the final product. I don't think the end of ChessWar is very meaningful or harmful to the computer chess community. Anyone can do it!
It seems the OP is just looking for some kind of sympathy...here is some sympathy for you
Cordially,

Yet, we are not being overwhelmed by people investing their time into conducting tournaments, broadcasting the games and providing a chat room for the authors and observers, reporting buggy behavior to the authors, maintain a website where tournament information could be found and the games downloaded, and keep doing this for multiple years.Sean Evans wrote:It is no longer difficult to do a ChessWar type tourney with the new computer chess software. I look forward to you taking over. Let us see if you are a little bit more than a troll.
Olivier has done an amazing job over several years.

If I want to add an AI that has at least bad/mediocre play, what would such an AI cost to create and implement?
