One suggestion is to consolidate the many sub-forums. What are there, like 12? Much easier to navigate 3, 4, or even 5. YMMV.

I have to agree with you, to some extent. All that really needs to be done (IMO) is make 'Free Engines' and 'Commercial Engines' instead of the Rybka/HIARCS/Stockfish/Ippolit Family subforums.

This is a good topic. I agree that it would best to have atmost 4 forums: Offtopic board, Engines and General sub forum, Programming board and Engine matches and results subforum.
The forum has just started, suggestions are welcome.

I agree. No need for sub-forums for each engine. Free and Commercial as you said.

The "Platforms" sub-forum can do without sub-fora, I think.
Matthias.

hi mathias. i don't think there are too many platform subforums.
in the future there will be alot of ANDROID chess and Mac Chess due to the new Ipads, Apads etc. tablet-PCs.
most of those Pads use different operating systems and i guess there will be plenty of different programs/engines
for these available and it could be discussions would be chaotic if you put them all together
in ONE area.
Today this might be different , but for the future its clear that
there is the need to discuss Chess in Windows, Linux, MacOs, Android, Java, PalmOS,...
apple sold 3.000.000 Ipads, and 10-15 companies will bring out new tablet-pcs in the next coming months
(dell, wetab, archos, motorola, samsung, toshiba, asus, intel...)
so there will be plenty of things to discuss.
